Rated 3 out of 5 by from String doesn't advance My husband bought this as he didn't want the hassle of a gas powered trimmer to just edge along the fence of our backyard. I opened it up and assembled it pretty easily and got it up and running. It seems to cut our St. Augustine grass well however the string doesn't auto advance. Because our grass is tough it goes through the string quickly. We have had to resort to stopped and taking off the cover and manually advancing the string which is a real pain in the rear end. I don't know if it's anything to do with the way we are putting the string on the spool and I may see if I can just buy a whole new spool with the string already wound on to it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Whoever engineered this should feel ashamed I don't typically write product reviews, but this trimmer has made me so incredibly frustrated I can't help myself. Like others have mentioned, the spool on this is so bad you'll find yourself wanting to beat this product against the ground as hard as you can until it breaks into a dozen pieces. If you like weed whacking in 20 second intervals before spending 5 minutes respooling your line, this is the tool for you. The line unspooling and whipping you in the legs is a fun feature too. I've tried multiple different trimmer lines in this and I can confirm: it is the B&D trimmer that is the issue, not the line. By far the worst weed trimmer I've ever used.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hungry String Trimmer I bought this trimmer because it uses .08 line. My other one used .065 and the line was breaking all the time. I brought my new trimmer home and set it up for use. No problem, very straight forward. Now this trimmer has an automatic line feed. No more tapping on the ground to extend the line. It does it automatically. I believe the trimmer comes loaded with about 40 feet of line. Say good by to the line. I went through the entire spool on my first use and didn't complete my yard. It is easy to flip the head around for edging and has a nifty little wheel attached which makes edging a breeze. If you do decide to buy this be sure to buy a package of 100 foot replacement line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does The Job Just purchased this trimmer today. The instructions were not good, but there wasn't much to put together. Attached the guard and put on the handle and off I went. I attacked a part of my backyard that had overgrown (tall grass over 6"). This trimmer took care of it with no problems. It is a little difficult to turn the shaft to use it as an edger, but that might be a good thing. It feels solidly built and is light for a trimmer. Like I said just bought it today so I can't speak to its durability. Also, this is a brand new model from BD to replace the 2000. I would highly recommend this to the average homeowner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LINE HOG Not Grass Hog I own a Toro line trimmer that was giving me fits with line breakage and having to rewind the spool all the time. I looked at a number of electric trimmers and landed on the GH3000. However, many of the reviews indicated that it was a LINE HOG. So, I did some research and found a way to significantly reduce this problem. I really like this trimmer as the motor is in the handle and, with the right type of line, does my yard with less than a yard of trimmer line. I recommend this to anyone who has a moderate size yard but want a more powerful trimmer... using the trimmer line I found that works. The link below will detail the type of line you need to purchase at Lowes to save you time and money

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A total waste of money Just like a $99 printer with $40 ink cartridges... this trimmer will cost you big bucks. Bought this and used it once last fall. Should have returned it then. I used 3 spools of line and didn't get to complete my sidewalk. Each spool trimmed roughly 30 feet. The auto feeder didn't work at all. Either the line broke or there was too much line released. I was constantly needing to adjust and rethread the line. And the cap is difficult for a person with small hands to remove. I ended up using two screwdrivers to remove. Since each replacement spool costs approximately $10, this is prohibitively costly to use. Don't waste your money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Questioning purchase of this new model This seemed to be a new model with more power, and was selected even though the prior model was on close out for a lower price. Upon first starting it, even before trying to cut any grass, the head flew off. The small chip in the plastic did not seem like it would be detrimental to the operation, so proceeded to put it together and started to cut grass. The only real disappointment is that the line breaks frequently, and the break in inside the head. This requires taking it apart and rewinding the string to start all over. Seriously thinking about returning the trimmer to Lowes the next time I have to go to town.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best line trimmer I've ever had!! I bought the BD GH3500 to remove 10 years of ivy buildup. I honestly didn't expect what I got. The GH3500 tore through the ivy with ease. I was amazed. I did use 1 full spool of line, but considering the huge amount of mature ivy I had to remove, I would have expected more line to have been used. The auto line feed worked very well. The ergonomics of the unit is excellent. It is balanced and easy to use. It is plenty powerful and took care of everything I needed it to do. I have only had it a week, but in that time, I have given it a lifetime of use. Time will tell how it holds up in the long term, but so far it has been amazing. I would recommend this trimmer to anyone...
