Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great attachment I'll say I bet that most of the negative reviews are from people that don't know how to use this thing and think it's broken. I was excited to get this item to use my with drill bits having just upgraded from a B&D drill/driver to a Dewalt impact driver. I opened the package, put it in the driver, tried to put a drill bit in it and.... couldn't get it it work. It appeared that it was locked in the full open position, I couldn't get it to close around the bit at all. I thought I'd gotten a defective item. I then picked up the instructions and realized I wasn't using it correctly. To tighten, put driver in forward, hold the chuck with other hand, squeeze trigger while holding chuck. The chuck will ratchet and lock onto the bit. To release the bit, put driver in reverse, hold chuck, squeeze trigger. Chuck will ratchet and then release the bit. Sometimes it does actually pay to read the instructions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase! My bf bought this chuck for his cordless drill to use on concrete, and the first one would not work right away. The head on the inside would not come out. We returned it, and the second one was opposite, the head on the inside came out but would not open, so I returned that one as well. It was in our garage for about 2 weeks and even had rust on it when I was returning it. The cashier thought I was lying about when I had made the purchase. We think its a defective product, and needs to be recalled. It was the only one lowe's had instore. I think the good reviews are from a previous model, as they are a few years old. Good luck, try something else if you can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great chuck I have the Makita version of this Japanese chuck. It has the best grip of any keyless chuck. It appears that the negative reviews are by people that don't know how to use it. It has an internal impact action for tightening and loosening the bit. You first close the chuck on your bit and then hold the chuck sleeve while you run the drill to tighten. To loosen the bit, hold the chuck sleeve and run drill in reverse.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from An Expensive Lesson I bought this so that I could use various drill bits on my DeWalt Impact Driver. It had a tendency tol lock on and not release. Finally it locked onto something for good. I couldn't return it because in order to extract my 90 degree drill adapter that was stuck in it I had to destroy it. Only when I had it down to it's very core was I able to get it's jaws to release. I assume it isn't intended to be used with impact drivers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Made good I can't find a way to add to my previous review, so am putting in a separate one. Previously I had posted what a problem I had with this product. That had not changed. DeWalt did contact me after my review and replaced my chuck and sent a 14 pack of drill bits. Some have stated that they destroyed their chuck getting the bit out. You don't have to hurt the chuck or the bit. Screw out the shank, set the chuck in a vice set open slightly larger then the bit. drive the bit out through the shank opening with a blunt nosed punch. This, of course, should not be necessary but it will get your bit out w'out any damage. Mine was a 1/2" bit, may be a little harder with a smaller bit? Anyways, I appreciate DeWalts efforts at making good on a bad situation even though I am still reluctant to try and use it again. Mostly the impact driver is for driving screws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seriously high quality This made in Japan tool is truly industrial quality. It's beautifully finished and performs impressively. I use it with my cordless impact driver (after throwing out my previous adapter). It works great in my standard cordless drill also.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big Mistake!! After several uses, the chuck locked and will not release! Like a previous reviewer mentioned, you have to destroy it to get it opened. Don't buy this ... it'll be a Big Mistake!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stuck open I bought this, worked alright for an hour. Now it is stuck open. It will not close to fit around the bit. Ive tried everything. Seems like many are having an issue with it not releasing the bit, but mine is doing the opposite. Very flawed product. I'll be returning it.
